Ownership Transfer Guide

Documents you need

• Original bluebook (vehicle registration certificate)
• Citizenship copies of both seller and buyer
• Recent passport-size photos of both
• Proof that vehicle tax is paid up to date
• Valid third-party insurance
• Bank consent / loan release letter if the vehicle is financed
• Ownership transfer application form (available at the transport office)

Steps

1. 1
   Check the documents

   Match the chassis and engine numbers in the bluebook with the vehicle. Check tax and insurance validity.

2. 2
   Write a sale agreement

   Write the price, payment method and handover date, signed by both.

3. 3
   Visit the transport office

   Submit the application and documents at the Transport Management Office where the vehicle is registered. Both parties may need to be present.

4. 4
   Pay the transfer fee

   Fees differ by vehicle type and province — confirm at the office.

5. 5
   Bluebook in the new owner's name

   Once done, the bluebook shows the new owner. Move the insurance to the new name too.
